The lazy person’s guide
Bill Gates would choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it.
So as a lazy person, I am going to teach you the concise, easier way to maximise your chances of getting exactly what you want in the early morning battlefield that is LUSH Kitchen.
Step 1: Decide What You Want Beforehand
Of all LUSH Kitchen social media (inc. Facebook & Twitter), their Instagram account is updated the fastest. In fact, they post on their Instagram right before all the product go online at 8am! So get Instagram and stalk LUSH Kitchen!
What’s really good about LUSH Kitchen’s Instagram page is that they will always post some sort of announcement for what products will be featured on the site the next week.
Sometimes, when it’s really special (eg. LUSH Kitchen Perfume Week), they may even post the prices beforehand so that you budget your whole month’s spending according to it!
So the first step is to:
- Decide what you want
- Decide the exact amount you want to buy
- Estimate the total cost
- Decide what shipping method you want to use
- Add that on to your estimate total (£3.95 is the minimum for shipping)
- Decide whether you want any permanent items as well
- Add that cost on top if you do
Step 2: Get PayPal
Ever wonder how some people checkout at the speed of light?
It’s PayPal; and it will un-complicate your life so much when it comes to LUSH Kitchen by making the checkout process much, much faster.
Imagine saving the time of keying in card details… address… and if you’re blessed with a double barrel name or a foreign four/five part name (aka. mine)…
That’s what PayPal will do for you.
Remember that from Step 1, we should have an estimate of how much everything is going to cost us? Make sure you’ve placed a bit more than you need for the day in your PayPal account funds just in case.
Step 3: Be awake 7:45 am (GMT)
Set your alarm to start ringing at 6 am if need be. But 7:45 is the latest you should wake up for this decisive day if you want to complete all the next steps in time to be the first to order to pretty new (exclusive) products!
By waking up before 7:45 and perhaps eating something or getting your coffee first, you’ll also have the energy to stay focused in your quest for Kitchen goodies. Your reflexes will also be much quicker than everybody else that just woke up at 7:55!
Step 4: Sign In To EVERYTHING
And I mean everything.
PayPal – so checkout is literally a click away.
LUSH – so your address and details are all keyed in already.
At this stage, add any permanent products you’d like to combine shipping with as well to your basket. No time to lose – next step is the last sprint!
Step 5: Look Up The Page
It’s minutes before the products go online. You’re almost hyperventilating with the stress of perhaps not being able to get what you want. Or maybe it’s your coffee. But you’re nervous.
At this point, many people make the mistake of trying to get into the LUSH Kitchen page with the crowd when the LUSH site’s main page may not even be loading. We won’t do that.
We’re lazy. We’re smart.
Go on Google and type in the following key words in the search bar:
- (Product Name)
- (Product Type)
- New Product
- (Product Weight – this is optional)
For example, if I wanted to look for the sold-out-quicker-than-I-could-say-Olaf Frozen Solid Perfume, I would type the following:
LUSH Frozen Solid Perfume Kitchen New Product
You’ll find the page straight away if you’re on Google UK. So remember to use google.co.uk before you search.
Notice that it says the page was last edited on the 28th of September 2015, despite the item only going online the morning of October 14th 2015. This is why this method works, because LUSH has already made the page before with an identifying slug in the url along with appropriate tags on their database.
Click on the link and you should be led to a page like this…
Don’t worry, keep on refreshing it and you’ll be amongst the very few that gain access to the elusive page while everybody is being filtered through by the man Kitchen page.
Step 6: Add Things To Your Basket!
Open another tab if you’d like more than one product from the Kitchen that is being released on the same day and repeat Step 5 for it as well. Once you gain access to the products, simply add them to your basket as quickly as you can.
One very important tip for this stage is that unless you receive a ‘503 Service Temporarily Unavailable’ message on your page – DO NOT REFRESH. And if you do get ‘503 Service Temporarily Unavailable’- refresh like crazy until it’s gone!
If your internet is simply taking it’s sweet time to load the next page after you press ‘Add to Basket’ – don’t refresh. By refreshing, the LUSH site treats this as an overriding action and you are placed at the back of the metaphorical line once again.
And that’s it! Happy shopping LUSHies!
I missed out! What do I do?
If it’s on the day and you haven’t missed by a lot (eg. it was literally in your basket until you pressed checkout) – don’t despair! Keep on trying to ‘Add to Basket’ if the button is still available. If it says ‘Unavailable’, it means that they are still not sold out – but merely in everybody else’s basket. So if someone decides they don’t want it anymore – it’s yours!
Lookout for a ‘half-time break’ announcement on any of LUSH Kitchen’s social media as well. It’ll be timed so that products appear back online right after school or work time for those in UK.
If it’s really gone, think positively! With LUSH Kitchen products, they will return. And the more popular the product the higher the chance of it returning as well. So for the item(s) you want to sold out so quickly, it probably means a safe and speedy return to the site as well.
What if I really really want an item no longer available?
Then you’ll need to ask yourself this: Am I willing to spend up to 50% more than the original price on it as well?
I would recommend Depop just because there’s a rarer chance of encountering counterfeits and outdated products. The customer protection is also better as long as you purchase in-app (if you pay through PayPal Friend & Family, just use eBay instead).
However, if you find an auction on eBay within your price range – go for it!
